New Swimmer Evaluations - Sunday, April 26 2-4 PM at NOVA Regency

Have a new swimmer on the team this year? Sign up for New Swimmer Evaluations on Sunday, April 26 from 2-4 PM at NOVA Regency - 100 NOVA Way. Every new swimmer to the team must be evaluated by the coaches for team placement. Swimmers who are not yet ready for the competitive team will be placed on the MicroWaves (former Development team) with the goal to participate in swim meets by season’s end or will be recommended for private lessons. Please use this link to sign up for your swimmer’s time slot.

You must be a member of the Wyndham Pool to join the team.

At the evaluation, each swimmer will be asked to swim down the length of the pool, and will be evaluated based on their competence and abilities in the water. If the swimmer makes it down the pool comfortably, we may ask them to swim another lap of a different stroke to assess their abilities. A coach will be in the water at all times to help encourage the swimmer and make sure they are safe, but we will not provide assistance unless it is needed. Swimmers will be evaluated in one of the following ways:

1. If the coaches feel that the swimmer fails to demonstrate adequate swimming capabilities which would result in an unsafe environment at practices, we will recommend that you take swim lessons separately from the team, and for the time being will not place the swimmer on the MicroWaves or the competition team.

2. If the coaches feel that the swimmer is able to safely participate in a practice setting, but is not comfortable enough in the water to participate on the competition team, we will recommend them to join the MicroWaves team. These swimmers will attend smaller "Mini Meets" throughout the season with the hopes that by the end of the season they are improved enough to advance to the competition team.

3. If the coaches feel that the swimmer is competent in the water and demonstrates more advanced swimming abilities, we will recommend them to join the regular competition team where they will practice and compete with their age group.

The coaches retain the right to assign a swimmer to any of the above categories as they see fit.
